West Orange

There’s a soothing feeling when you’re within the 12 square miles called West Orange. From the Essex Equestrian Center to the Essex Country Club and five golf courses. From the legendary Mayfair Farms and the Pleasantdale Chateau to the new Whole Foods, the Essex Green Shopping Center, movie theater, and the many eateries, there’s something for everyone.

There various ways to get into New York, from bus to shuttle service.

Its history is steeped in Thomas A. Edison’s decision to move operations here in 1887. Edison’s laboratory produced the movie camera, improved phonography, sound recording, sound movies and the alkaline electric storage battery.

West Orange is home to the first planned community in America, Llewellyn Park, a private community that includes Edison estate and 173 other houses and estates. It’s also home to the Saint Barnabas Health Care System and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation.
